About B’nai Abraham

Congregation B’nai Abraham is a warm, family-friendly community bringing together Jews from around the area. We have members from Washington County, Frederick County, as well as the surrounding areas of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Just as we have for our 130 year history, we continue to serve those who seek an intimate, caring and supportive Jewish atmosphere. Our building has just undergone a major modernization and renovation project, complete with a new entrance way, lift to sanctuary level and updating of our social hall.

We are fortunate to claim very strong growth in all areas of our community and religious life. Since the arrival of our rabbi about two years ago, our numbers have grown from 35 families to approximately 75 families. Our community anticipates membership continuing to grow as we expand our offerings and approach new ways of empowering our membership to eagerly meet the needs of the 21st century.

Our congregants come from a variety of Jewish backgrounds and experiences. Our full-time rabbi is eager to provide meaningful connection to each and every Jewish person and family, seeking to enrich their lives through many gateways of access to Judaism. We also take very seriously our commitment to those experiencing loss, including very strong stewardship and maintenance of our historic cemetery, open to Jews and non-Jewish spouses.

In addition to well attended and spirited observances of all festivals, high holy days and holidays, we also have regular Shabbat worship on Friday evenings at 730, unless otherwise noted. Our educational programs range from activities for very young children, to religious school that prepares youth for Bar and Bat Mitzvah, as well as a robust teen youth group and confirmation experience.

We have weekly and monthly learning activities for adults of all ages and interests, with strong social programming that accompanies our lifelong learning adult education. Shalom and welcome to Congregation B’nai Abraham. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to our congregational family!
