What It’s Like to Suddenly Have a Special Needs Child

I lost my son yesterday. It was only for 10 minutes, but still. We were at the apple orchard, and I had stopped to take a picture of my youngest daughter by the morning glories. When I looked up from my phone, my son had gone. There were hundreds of people around — kids and carriages and grandparents and stands with kettle corn, pre-picked fruit, and pumpkins. It was chaos, and I had no idea where he was.

This simple dreidel made out of recycled materials is a super easy Hanukkah craft for kids. Every child loves spinning the dreidel and like most kids who celebrate the Festival of Lights, my boys have a slew of dreidels. Early on Saturday morning — about an hour before the horrific news broke of the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that left eleven people dead — I was laying out my kids’ clothes, in preparation for a family photo shoot. Since this was a special occasion, I asked my 7-year-old daughter if she wanted to wear her hamsa, a Jewish amulet in the shape of an open hand that’s intended to ward off evil and protect the wearer.

There's a new way to keep your child from developing a peanut allergy

Research suggests kids with moms who eat peanuts while breastfeeding are less likely to develop allergies when they're older.


When it comes to peanut allergies, there's a growing body of knowledge that points to early exposure as a highly successful prevention method.

And now, the evidence mounts, with a new study from researchers in Canada that suggests children whose mothers eat peanuts or peanut-based foods while breastfeeding are less likely to develop the allergy themselves.
